Description
On some days, the rush seems like the most common narrative in city life. We hurry home, to work, to get groceries and even when we get the chance to meet with a friend and maybe spend some slow, meaningful time, the hurry doesn’t seem to go away. The endless tasks, worries, content and news that we consume can make us feel distracted, disconnected and in the end - lonely. Does this happen to you ? For us it happened quite often and it still happens sometimes, but we want to change this narrative of “life as a race”. Makuma is back, creating space for unexpected meetings—the fascinating conversations you didn’t know you were missing, the wonderful people you might never have met, the experiences you weren’t previously part of. We create a comfortable ‘bubble’, an oasis of slowing down, where you can connect deeply, explore our shared humanity, and just be yourself. The Makuma experience is based on ‘the four Cs’. We invite you to reflect on and follow them throughout the night: 💡 Curiosity – Listen to understand, not to judge. Be interested, not just interesting. 💛 Compassion – Offer kindness and support without unasked advice or the need to convince. 🛑 Consent – Connection is only real when everyone feels safe and comfortable. Say “hell yes” or “I’ll pass” freely, at any point. Trust and openness go hand in hand. ⏳ Commitment to the present Moment – Resist distractions and overthinking about what you will say next, and offer your partner the gift of your full attention. You don’t have any obligations past the end of this conversation, no matter how it goes! Don’t worry if you do not get them all “right” from the start- like starting a new sport, authentic connection is a practice that gets better with consistency & time. Follow our social media, as we will soon dive deeper into the four Cs guiding our experiences. How will the evening look like? You will arrive, perhaps a little bit nervous or perhaps very excited, & you will be greeted by a friendly host. With the help of a simple web app (nothing complicated, we promise!) that you will sign up to before the event, you’ll be matched with someone you share something in common with. You will be matched based on your answers to our very short & fun ‘personality quiz’. Your challenge? To discover what things you have in common with the other! Thoughtful prompts will guide you past small talk and empty debates into fun, meaningful and thought-sparking conversations. The prompts will be delivered in English- however, you can answer them in whatever language feels comfortable for both of you. Throughout the event, you’ll have the chance to meet multiple intriguing people—stay in a conversation that sparks your interest, or switch and discover another fascinating stranger. The choice is yours! By following the four Cs, you might soon discover a refreshing and fulfilling way to interact with new people. Your differences become the spark for interesting conversation, not something to be judged. Your similarities and shared struggles become a force that draws you closer in your shared human experience, and allows you to feel seen and supported. So, whether you’re a deep thinker, an adventurer seeking novelty, someone who needs a little bit of support opening up to new people or just bored of the same social interactions over a beer—come as you are. Makuma is here to make space for connection, one conversation at a time! ‼️ In order to sign up for the event you will need to create an account on the Makuma app and book a ticket.
