Forest Bathing for Busy People

Description

There’s always something to do. Something to answer, finish, organise, remember or plan. And even when you have some time to yourself, your attention can still be somewhere else, already thinking about what comes next. This 90-minute experience is an invitation to step out of that rhythm for a little while and spend some unhurried time in the forest. Forest bathing, or shinrin-yoku, is a Japanese practice of spending time in the forest in a slower, more sensory way. Rather than walking towards a destination, we give ourselves time to notice what is around us: sounds, smells, textures, colours, light, movement and the small details we might usually pass by. There’s a reason this practice has received so much attention in recent years. Research on shinrin-yoku has found associations with reduced stress, improved mood and attention, and changes in physiological markers such as heart rate and blood pressure. Spending time in forests can also support a sense of connection with the natural world. This session is a chance to explore some of these qualities for yourself, through 90 minutes of slow, sensory time in the forest. During our time together, I’ll guide you through a series of simple invitations to explore the forest through your senses. We’ll walk slowly, pause, sit, wander and make space for whatever catches our attention. Everything I offer is an invitation. You can adapt, modify or skip any practice based on your own rhythm, needs and capacity. There’s nothing you need to achieve, and no particular state you need to reach. You can simply come as you are and see what happens when you give yourself a little more time to notice. Over the years, I’ve become increasingly interested in what happens when we slow down and pay attention to our relationship with the living world around us. I create spaces that are gentle, invitational and grounded in curiosity, where there is no pressure to perform, share or experience things in a particular way. ----------------------------------- Forest bathing is a nature-connection and wellbeing practice. This experience is not psychotherapy or medical treatment.
